Sometimes it seems as though the natural world is engaged in a conversation that doesn’t include us. Putting two photographs side by side brings out the symbiotic forms nature can take, and makes clear the commonalities, too. One shows a sago palm uncurling its young leaves, all soft and tender in its newness; the other shows a stand of seasoned river birches, hard but grand in the late afternoon sun—and together they demonstrate the secret dialogue between plants, and prints. ♣
